Welcome to A Lovenote.

A weekly digest where I say hello and share. You’ll find things you can cook this week + some things you didn’t ask for but might enjoy. I’m so glad you are here!

Hello lovely,

Happiest Sunday to you! I hope your week has been full of little joys and that you’re easing into these final golden days of summer. For me, this past week has been everything I love about August—travel, sunset swims, hikes, long dinners, even a boat cruise or two. I always think of August as the “Sunday” of summer—soaking up the beauty while knowing the season is gently winding down.

Have you ever woken up wondering why your mood, energy, and digestion feel completely different from one day to the next?

I’ve just returned from a week in France, and let me tell you—it was a masterclass in what it means to live in harmony with food and your body.

We stayed with dear friends - a French family now living in Canada- and here’s what I noticed:

  • I didn’t see a single person obsessing over calories, protein grams, or macros.

  • Meals included fresh bread at lunch and dinner—without guilt.

  • Food was bought and prepared fresh daily.

  • People walked everywhere, but not in the “I need to hit 10,000 steps” kind of way.

  • Ultra-processed packaged food was almost nowhere to be seen.

And yet… I also didn’t see anyone struggling with the same energy crashes, digestive issues, or weight fluctuations that are so common here.

It made me realize: the French way of eating—simple, fresh, and unprocessed—creates exactly the kind of environment your gut thrives in.

Why Gut Harmony Matters for Your Hormones

Your gut and your hormones are in constant conversation. When your gut microbiome—the trillions of bacteria living in your digestive tract—is healthy and thriving, it helps your body:

  • Balance and metabolize estrogen more effectively

  • Produce “feel-good” brain chemicals like serotonin

  • Keep inflammation low (fewer hot flushes and random aches)

  • Support your immune system and stress resilience

When it’s out of balance, you might notice:

  • Bloating, constipation, or “mystery” digestive changes

  • Low energy, brain fog, or restless nights

  • Mood swings, cravings, or that wired-but-tired feeling

The French Lessons for Gut Health 🇫🇷🌱

Here’s the truth: You don’t have to micromanage your food to support your gut and hormones. In fact, sometimes the best approach is simpler:

  • Eat real food—mostly fresh, mostly unprocessed.

  • Build variety into your meals over the week.

  • Move your body naturally through your day.

Expert Tip: The Power of Plant Diversity

One of the easiest, most effective ways to feed your gut microbiome is to aim for 30 different plant foods each week—just like the French way of eating naturally does.
Fruit, vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices—they all count!

Each plant type feeds different beneficial bacteria. The more diversity, the more resilient your gut—and the happier your hormones, mood, and energy.

✨ Bonus: When you start feeding your “good bugs,” they multiply and send stronger cravings for those nourishing foods.

Try this week:

  • Add fresh herbs to whatever you’re cooking

  • Sprinkle seeds over breakfast or salads

  • Swap your usual grain for something new (quinoa, buckwheat, farro)

This is one of the core foundations I teach inside UNSTUCK, my program for women who want to optimize their health and hormones working with them instead of against them.

Some things you didn’t ask for (but might enjoy)...

HABITS. I’ve been drinking wine almost every night this summer! I’m somewhat embarrassed to admit it, but aside from two nights (Fras’ birthday party and a fabulous night in France), I haven’t overdone it. Summer is so very precious and I’m allowing myself to soak it in - Chablis and all. I know it doesn’t serve my health goals, so I will rein it in soon, but for now, I’m having fun and enjoying it. Eventually I would like to remove it from my routine, but for now, I’m enjoying it. 🍷

TRAVEL. We’ve been living between two cottage country areas this summer - packing and unpacking. Collingwood is all activity, social, exercise and farm living. Muskoka is dock time, boating, great meals and family time. I’m so happy to have these experiences and also, so happy to come home to my own bed.

ADVICE. Scientifically proven ways to boost mental and physical wellness (in less time than it takes to read this article -- ready, set, go!).

SCROLLING. I loved this post from Jessica Biel where she shares her fitness routine. I love how she explains that being in peak fitness (she was working out for a part in a film) isn’t completely sustainable, but that building muscle is still important.

READING. We blew through the Inheritance Games Series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. It’s an awesome YA trilogy. If you have any end-of-summer road trips with the family, I highly recommend you get it on audible to enjoy in the car. My 17, 16 and 13 year old all enjoyed listening to it during our many trips to and from cottages over the past few weeks.

SHOPPING. I ordered these sandals after seeing how chic all the women in France dress. I need to zhush up my footwear game!

Can we just talk about how brilliant this little table that shoves into the crevice in your couch is??

When I got home from France, I had a desperate roots appointment. My hair dresser gave me the most exquisite scalp massage with this tool. It’s miracle-tool that invigorates blood flow to the scalp to exfoliate, remove product buildup, and control flakiness. (US LINK)

My absolute favourite swimsuit brand, Left on Friday, is having a very rare sale! I love this bikini top and these high waisted bottoms. They are universally flattering (IMO)-both my sisters and bestie have both hopped on board and they love them too. I would size up. They run a titch small. I recommend this brand with all my heart. Now 30% off! This is my suit. I also own this 1-piece and am always complimented on it.

I do love the fall, but Halloween is my least favourite holiday. However, I think I could get behind this cute ghost cloche.

I bought my very first pair of barrel leg jeans (IKIK - I’m always the last to the trends!) I can’t believe I waited so long. They are much more flattering than I anticipated and I LOVE. them!

WATCHING. The Son on Prime with Pierce Brosnan. What is it with all these early Americana shows and my obsession with them?

That’s it for me this morning. Thank you for reading and continuing to support this newsletter ❤️ Fill me in on what you’re up to and what you’d like to see more of. xoC
