Welcome to A Lovenote.
A weekly digest where I say hello and share. You’ll find things you can cook this week + some things you didn’t ask for but might enjoy. I’m so glad you are here!
This Maya Angelou quote is one of my favourites but it has come up often in my conversations this week in reference to our cousin Hudson, who we lost suddenly over the August long weekend. Hudson’s special sauce was that he made you feel amazing. People like that are truly special. Nothing else really matters. WE continue to painfully miss him, but have been so comforted by all your comments and words of support. Thank you.
Thank you, also, to all who voted in my poll on Instagram this week! I am trying to be sure I share what you need most and was curious about what would be most helpful going into the fall. The results were close, but it seems that Cook Once, Eat Twice (batching brilliance) was the winner, followed by Made-for-you Seasonal Meal Plans. I am taking this to heart and will produce something AMAZING that I hope will help you with this. Let me know if there is more you’d like to see in September and October!
YOGA THIS FALL
Yogi’s! Back to School also means Back to Workout Routines! I will be back teaching this September! I am looking forward to seeing your beautiful faces! You can find me at Maison Pilates and Seven Yoga & Pilates. If you are interested in adding powerful strength based yoga to your fall routine, please click here to be added to my yoga communications.
If you’re interested in trying a new form of fitness, or recommitting to the one you may have been neglecting, now is a great time to get back into a routine. I would love to practice with you.
WELCOME! to our new subscribers! I’m thrilled you’re here. In this newsletter, I share insights into my life, my adventures, and discoveries from my online explorations. Sharing is caring, and I’m excited to pass along helpful tips, hacks, and valuable intel as we all strive to be our best.
And what about you? How was your week? Let’s dive into today’s newsletter, shall we?
What caught my eye this week
WATCHING. The Bear. Obviously I’m loving all the food footage. The family chaos is a little overwhelming but by mid-way through the 1st season, I was hooked!
Also, Bad Monkey, on Apple TV. It’s about some unhinged characters based in Miami, Florida—revolving around a detective (Played by Vince Vaughn) who keeps a victim’s arm in his freezer. I’m medium warm into in.
Am I the only person who isn’t running to go see It Ends with Us? This might be an unpopular opinion, but I read the book and totally thought it was ho-hum. Where are you guys at with it?
LISTENING
Loved this Goal Digger Podcast on the power of starting something new. I am a curious person who LOVES being creative. Especially using my hands). But I am a great starter and not the best follow-through-er (thank you ADHD). This episode reminded me about the importance of reaching out for support when you are learning something new. Finding a friend or a mentor to help guide us. And to find connection and community along the way. It inspired me to look into a Sourdough making class (I make 2 loaves a week but am still very much a beginner). I also signed up for a social media business course to help me navigate growing my blog and offerings.
Also, to this song on repeat.
SHOPPING I did not know that August is Black Business Month! If you or someone you know owns a black owned business, please reply to this newsletter with the details and I will include it in my stories next week!
This racerback workout top arrived this week and it TOTALLY lives up to the hype! I bought it because it has amazing reviews on Amazon. I bought the black in size small. I am going to look at more colours this week.
I think these wide leg cargo pants could be my uniform this fall.
When the familiar and not so subtle urge to get organized tugs at you (looking at you Virgo season), this beautiful planner from Anthro will satisfy.
TRAVEL I have a trip to NYC planned in early September - just a quick one with Fraser. He participates every year in the R2NYC in support of Campfire Circle. His route has him arriving from Toronto into Time’s Square. I’m going to fly down and meet him there. I have almost 2 full days in the city solo and would love any recommendations you have for a gal on the loose in the big apple!
I am also dreaming of spending late summer in the Hampton’s after reading this guide to Where to Shop and Eat in the Hampton’s like you’re Ina Garten. I wonder if we have any time to just hop on over to the Hampton’s…..?
SCROLLING Pamela Anderson on returning home to cultivate her true roots.
ORGANIZING Besides the fact that back to school season is heavy on my brain and I love nothing more than the feeling of being organized, we’ve also been living at our chalet all summer and need to pack up to go back to the city. I’ve started the slow, methodical process of packing us, organizing our stuff, working through the food…. I get the Sunday scares in a debilitating way. I started with vacuuming out our pantry with this handheld vacuum that I bought for Fras for his car. It’s great because it’s so light and nimble. It made short work of my shelves.
COOKING This week in Instagram stories, I asked you what you need most from me as we head into the back-to-school season. Most of you asked for solutions on how to batch your meals - cook once, eat twice. Leave this with me and I’ll get you what you’re asking for ASAP!
I made these Browned Butter Peach Squares and they were INCREDIBLE! I made some changes that I am currently writing up, but was excited to share this delicious find! I can’t wait to add this to my Peach Series over on Instagram! I would highly recommend you add these to your baking projects this weekend!
Lastly, in case you missed it, I rounded up some seasonal inspiration of what to cook, bake and eat in August! So many amazing recipes that you will love! If you try any, I’d love to see what you make. Tag me on instagram.
